How do I claim land?

Find an area that is not claimed
Right click with a stick to check if the land is claimed
Right click with a golden shovel on two opposite corners of the land
A temporary perimeter of gold and glowstone will appear around the claimed area
or you can place down a chest (this is only allowed once)
